Hello its Shantaie Fowler here today and my craftroom is positively billowing in ruffled crepe paper! Would you like to know how easy it is to make your own? You can add ruffles like the ones on my Halloween treat bag for mere pennies!
Lets get started! You will need a roll of crepe paper party streamer {even a leftover partial roll will do}, a sewing machine or hand sewing needle and thread.
Start with your machine pressure foot down and the end of your paper up against the needle. Your stitch length should be at 3 or higher. Begin stitching while holding your hand up against the the paper that is being fed through.
The paper will ruffle as you stitch, you can pull the threads for more ruffle or use as is. Keep in mind that different brands and thicknesses of paper will end in varying results. {that is a good thing if you ask me} You can whip up yards of crepe ruffles in minutes, or just ruffle the amount you need. I tend to be the "make a ton -o-ruffles" girl myself!
I added a strip of adhesive right above the embossed area of the embossed Chevron Glassine Bag to adhere the ruffle to.
Peel away the backing and place the center of the ruffle along the adhesive.
Now you are ready to add as many or as few detailed embellishments as you prefer to your bag. I used a Large scallop circle Punched Piece, a black and white SRM Labels by the Dozen and a Take 2 Halloween sticker to build a round focal point to the bag.
I used another black and white label to create a flag highlighting a sentiment from Stickers by the Dozen Trick or Treat it is tucked slightly behind the circle. And overlaps the edge a little. TIP: When I use stickers as banners or stand alone pieces I usually place them on cardstock first.
I love adding extra touches like twine and pom poms to dress up the ruffles! And a stamped image too!
I have been making my own ruffled crepe for a long time, I hope you will find lots of uses and ways to use it in your crafty adventures!
